Recently the Asheville Friends Meeting responded to the tragic shooting at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville by uniting with a statement offered by our Peace and Earth Committee offering condolences and support.

Now, six months later, West Knoxville Friends Meeting is offering an opportunity to reflect on that tragedy by hosting the Earlham School of Religion Open House and Traveling Ministries Program: “Why me, Lord?!: A Theological, Biblical, and Therapeutic Approach to Tragedy”. The program will be held at West Knoxville Friends Meeting on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Earlham Professors Lonnie Valentine and Nancy Bowen, are the presenters, along with Rev. Mitta T. Jafarzadeh, of Westside Unitarian Universalist Church. Open House and Registration from 8:30-10:00 am; presentation from 10:00 am – 3:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. Donations will be gladly accepted. Time for questions and discussion will be provided. For more information and to make a reservation email: fordma@earlham.edu or call 765-973-2158 or (800) 432-1377.

Meeting has agreed to provide a $2000 scholarship to help Stephanie Gossett reach another milestone in her journey. After her next semester at Earlham, she will be headed to Ghana for an intense semester of Women’s Studies. As she intends to pursue a career of service to women in Africa, this is a great milestone indeed!
