The Ministry and Counsel Committee has created a basket of queries and placed it on the mantle in the Meeting foyer. Queries have been collected from Faith and Practice and from other Monthly Meetings. These queries are available for Friends to take for contemplation during or after Meeting, and paper is available for Friends to contribute their own queries.
Frances Morgan McLean, beloved wife and mother, age 94, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at Givens Estates, Asheville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Albert Rufus Morgan and Madeline Prentiss Morgan, and her brother, Albert Rufus Morgan, Jr.
Born November 20, 1917, in Rutherforton, NC, Frances was raised in Columbia, SC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, and served as a Social Worker from 1938-41.
Frances married Donald McLean of Asheville on May 10, 1941, at Kanuga Episcopal Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC. She was a loving wife and mother who always found ways to help others.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Donald Woods McLean, of Givens Estates. Her four children and their families will always honor her memory in their hearts. They are Donald McLean, Jr. and wife Donna of Beaufort, SC; Kathryn Welch and husband Paul of Pickens, SC; Robert (Bob) McLean and wife Nancy of Weaverville, NC; and Doug McLean and wife Mary of Weaverville, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four nieces and nephews.
Frances loved wood carving, hiking and community service. Her love for all people was a shining example for everyone who knew her. She was a former member of All Souls Church in Biltmore and later of Asheville Friends Meeting.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
