This year, Asheville Meeting completed its State of the Meeting Report in record time! In recent years we’ve consistently missed the SAYMA deadline, and last year did not have a report at all. This year’s report was approved at 3rd Month Meeting for Business, well ahead of the deadline, with only a few minor changes to the draft submitted by our clerk Barbara E. The process we have been developing in recent years seems to have served us well. To read this year’s report, click here.
Our newsletter layout person (who is also our websteward), Kieron M., spent most of his waking hours last month (and quite a few when he should have been sleeping!) getting his new store open, but still somehow managed to produce our monthly Newletter before the first of the month! Kudo’s to Kieron! And while we’re at it – a shameless plug for his business, which is recycling print cartridges. Please patronize the new Cartridge World store, conveniently located at Merrimon Avenue and Edgewood Road, within walking distance of the Meetinghouse. If you happen to be at the Meetinghouse during business hours.
This month’s newsletter is chock full of inspirational readings and poetry, and you’ll find a familiar column has returned: Tidbits! You can view this month’s edition by clicking here. For dial-up users, this issue will take about one minute to download. Paper copies are available by mail or in the Meeting foyer.
We collected several boxes and bags of non-perishable food items in our Manna Food Bank Drive. Jennifer R. gave an excellent presentation for the Adult First Hour program, which was well attended. If you missed the collection drive, no need to lament! Jennifer informed us that Ingles Food Stores, Manna’s largest single supporter, has collection barrels at the entry of every store.
The annual gathering of the Southern Appalachian Yearly Meeting and Association (SAYMA) will take place at Warren Wilson College, Jun 5-8. Advance programs on the table in the Foyer. Or, you can register online!
Friends General Conference, the annual nationwide gathering of “unprogrammed” Friends, will take place at the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown PA, from June 28 to July 5. Advance program on table in foyer, or visit the FGC website by clicking here.
The Mar. 1 workshop on “Exploring Unprogrammed Quaker Worship” was a great success, with 16 Friends from Asheville, Brevard, Celo, and Swannanoa Valley participating. Evan R has been invited to bring the workshop to Celo on April 5. Contact Evan if you are interested in attending.
Our Yearly Meeting is blessed with a very active group of Young Adult Friends. Although primarily in the college to graduate school age range, Young Adult Friends are open to seekers up to age 35. The YAF’s will have a weekend retreat at our Meetinghouse on the weekend of March 21-23, which coincides with the observation of the Easter holiday. For more information, contact Stephanie G.
